Serenity? If for Only a Moment.

Published 11 March 2008

May have framed this a bit different were I to have another go at it… Then again, maybe not.

I still quite like the smoothness of the water against the rough stairs. The asymmetry doesn’t actually bother me too much, and maybe it’s just because I’m trying but the more I look at it the more I think I do like it.

This was a particularly calm day on Lake Ponchartrain, such weather does no prevail all too often. It’s quite eerie really for such a relatively large body of water to be so still. Especially as the sun is slowly sliding down the sky and sinking into its depths… makes for some great reflection (thoughts) and nice atmosphere for wandering about alone.

Another thing about this shot (and the next in the series I will post) is that it falls into the category of photographs that I wouldn’t have usually taken. Something that falls out of my normal ‘comfort’ area or just my usual way of thinking. It’s a photograph taken with a new (to me) camera that I was just itching to use and point at anything I could find. That doesn’t mean I’m up for snapping away at anything mind you, but I’ll sure look in places I normally wouldn’t to find some unexpected photography. Perhaps it is a bit mundane, but I feel like its simplicity is perhaps also its strength. Then, maybe it’s just that looking at this makes me feel and recall exactly how I felt that moment. And for me (as the photographer) that is enough to be satisfied.
