![]() Palmer Chapel, Cataloochee ValleyPublished 24 November 2006 This is the chapel from the now abandoned town of Chataloochee Valley, North Carolina. Palmer Chapel was the only church in Cataloochee Valley. The town was inhabited from 1809-1930, when the government bought the land to create what is now part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Cataloochee land is currently being populated with herds of wild elk, once native to the area.
