This is actually taken on the same night as the last shot, though a bit further down the highway.
Here is the tiny Junction town of Orla, Texas, now abandoned.
Beside the road an old, worn placard reads:
“ORLA Gateway to Red Bluff Lake, Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns Recreational Areas. Established 1890 on Pecos Valley Railroad. Developed during land promotions. Had school, hotel, livery stable. In 1931 remaining merchant and postmaster Hal Olds moved 1/4 mile west to new highway.”
The site is on autopilot while I’m away for a week or so in Tennessee and North Carolina. I’ll be away from the computer, so I’ll have to catch up on emails when I return!
