Lakeview School

Published 15 February 2007

The old Lakeview School in New Orleans, now abandoned.

This was taken on expired color slide film, cross processed in C-41 chemicals, and the resulting negative printed on black and white Illford Matte Multigrade.

I spent hours in the darkroom last night, and it really felt good. It’s been a while, but there’s just something about the smell of Dektol and fixer that really get me going. It’s so peaceful and I rarely notice the time passing in there.

After working with digital for a few weeks lately, I really began to miss the good old physical feeling of negatives and photo paper in my hands. Film grain, toners, and all those tiny nuances that can never really be reproduced digitally all came rushing back. I’ll be posting the rest of the results of last night’s session over the next few days.

The site will be on auto pilot from now on for the next two weeks, as I head out west seeking some adventures!
