![]() Chance EncountersPublished 1 October 2007 I hesitated posting this one, as I finally got my films back from the lab today and would have preferred to post some of that. This is from the 5D, but I have some slides of the same scene that look like they would be much better. Unfortunately, I’m not at home at the moment and so have no means to scan them. Look forward to some of that tomorrow night though. There’s really nothing too special about this shot. Just some beautiful scenics on an equally beautiful day. This was the same day as the last two, just later in the afternoon, the sun much higher in the sky, and much warmer outside. As I was working on this shot, rather fixated upon my work, this guy snuck up on me. It was really rather startling to turn around after being immersed in my own magical photo-world to find a 1,400 lb Bull Moose staring at you literally only a few yards off. The above shot was taken with my 24-105mm at about 100mm, so no powerful telephoto by any means… He was admittedly a bit too close for comfort, but really I loved it, and he didn’t seem to mind me snapping off a couple photographs of him (including this one I really like) as I crept ever closer, eventually getting within probably 8-10 meters of him before backing slowly away. (That was before I returned to the visitor center in the park later that day to read the various warnings about the dangers of moose encounters.) Heh, hooray for ignorance I guess. Had I read such warning previously I likely would have been much too scared to catch these shots. It was definitely a worth while experience though, and I’d take a little danger any day for such a unique glimpse at such a bizzare and amazing creature like this.
