Mailboxes in the French Quarter. There’s just something about grunge and wear that really draws me. It seems objects can have some story or history to tell as well, perhaps most evidenced in the smallest of details. I shot these two separately, and didn’t notice the similarity until I got home and was looking at them again. I enjoyed the obvious relation, so I set them up as a diptych.

From Kurt:
“Oh yes, how well I know them all: Chris Boswell and Mike Rogers, the charming gay couple down the corridor. Always friendly, always a smile on their faces. And there’s old Joanne Richardson – she was a teacher before her retirement. Teaching needlework or something. And then there’s Kevin Soles from apartment C, strange little guy, always wearing his turquoise T-shirts (in fact I’ve never seen him without one). And of course there’s Mr and Mrs Welchhance. Only seen them once. Must have been late autumn 2005. Don’t know why they’re hiding all day long. The Wightkins are a great family. 4 children, 2 hamsters and a dog. They invited me to their daughter’s birthday party last summer. I refused. Carol Wightkin’s sweet, but only 2 years old. And last, not least there’s Daniel Eckert. He arrived from Germany in November. Still looking for a suitable job, helping out as a part-time waiter at the restaurant down the road. Lovely people they are.

What an inviting neighborhood.”
